Fellowship to Aid Ambitious Plans for Mental Health Research |
A $30,000 fellowship will aid Thresholds Institute Director Sandra Wilkniss in her plans to break new ground in combining mental health services and scholarship.
Professional development efforts funded by The Chicago Community Trust fellowship awarded in January will contribute to Wilkniss’ growth as an emerging leader in mental health research. Wilkniss envisions new efforts to blend mental health practices with research in a way that’s fairly common in medicine — such as with comprehensive cancer centers — but that will be novel in the mental health field.
“I’m very grateful to The Chicago Community Trust,” Wilkniss says. “This could not have come at a better time, for me or for Thresholds. We are looking to make new advancements in coming years that will improve services to people with mental illness. The Trust’s generous support will ensure I’m fully prepared for this important period.”
