Thresholds Closes UrbanMeadows Flower Shop

Thank you for your ongoing support of UrbanMeadows, the social enterprise flower shop owned and managed by Thresholds. It is with mixed emotions that we announce that UrbanMeadows has been sold and will no longer be affiliated with Thresholds, nor constitute a nonprofit entity.

This change comes to better align our agency with employment best practices in the mental health field, where sheltered agency-run employment models are no longer considered the best option for our clients. Instead, we utilize a method of employment services called Supported Employment that emphasizes community-based competitive employment that matches each client’s skills and interests.

The flower shop, however, will continue to operate, now under the name UrbanFlowers. There should be no interruption to your ongoing floral deliveries. UrbanFlowers’ website is www.urbanflowerschicago.com.

We are pleased that the shop will remain. Many customers will recognize the new owner, Olville. He is the store’s former manager and a dedicated proponent of hiring individuals with disabilities. If you have any questions or would like to make any adjustments to your present order, please contact Olville at 866-632-3797.

We are grateful for your past business. Your support of UrbanMeadows has not only generated employment for the store’s staff persons, but has helped Thresholds grow into the largest provider of recovery services for persons with mental illnesses in Illinois. Thank you for your support of UrbanMeadows and belief in Thresholds’ mission. If you are interested in learning more about Thresholds, please visit our website, www.thresholds.org, or connect with us on Facebook and Twitter.
